Airflow that no longer captures cooking smoke

Ventilation Repair
A hood is part of the cooking installation: airflow, noise, lights, and controls only make sense in relation to the range or cooktop below it.

Overview

Ventilation is not a standalone box. Capture depends on hood width, mounting height, duct path, and the cooking appliance underneath. Weak pull after filters are clean is a different finding from a new grind in the blower.
Wall, island, insert, and downdraft units fail in the same families of parts — blower, control, lights, filters — but they are reached differently. The visit starts from the installation you actually have.
Air, sound, lights
Airflow, noise, lighting, and dead controls are separate complaints. A hood that still moves air but howls is not automatically “weak suction.” Filters and duct restrictions are checked because they sit in the same path as the blower.
See cooking and ventilation services, or schedule the visit. Editorial guides cover owner-safe filter care only.
Common problems we fix
A blower that rattles, grinds, or shrieks
Lights that stay dark while the fan still runs
Buttons or a remote that do not change speed
A hood that will not power on
Grease load that returns immediately after a filter clean
Our diagnostic process
Installation context
Wall, island, insert, or downdraft, and the cooking surface below.
Air path
Filters, blower, and visible duct restrictions tied to the complaint.
Noise versus airflow
Sound that is new versus pull that is actually down.
Lights and control
Separate from the blower when only those failed.
The repair process
Finding named
Airflow, blower, lighting, or control — then the scope.
Discussed work
Required components are reviewed before the hood is further disassembled.
Approved ventilation work
Repair stays inside what you approved.
Air and sound check
Pull and noise are checked against the original complaint.
Technician expertise
Hood diagnosis includes the cooking appliance below and the duct above. Filters, blowers, and controls are separated so a clean filter is not mistaken for a finished repair.
Service terms after repair
If workmanship coverage applies after ventilation repair, it is written with the estimate. This page does not guarantee a result or a time window.
Safety first Disconnect power before anyone inspects a hood interior. Do not run a gas cooktop for long periods if the hood will not move air. Ladders and island mounts are part of access planning, not a DIY wiring job.

The blower, visible duct path, and whether the cooking appliance below still matches the hood width and height. A clean filter is one check, not the whole diagnosis.
New grinding or rattling can be a blower problem that still moves some air. It is worth diagnosing before the fan stops altogether.
Capture depends on that pairing. Diagnosis treats them as one cooking installation, not two unrelated products.
Wall, island, insert, or downdraft, plus width if you know it, and whether lights, fan, or both failed.
