Appliance Repairs You Should Never DIY (For Your Safety)
A clear line between owner-safe observation and work that needs a technician: gas, live electrical, refrigerant, interlocks.
Some kitchen-appliance work is outside what a homeowner should attempt. The line is not “difficulty.” It is energy, fuel, pressure, and safety devices.
Do not open an energized appliance, probe live conductors, disassemble gas fittings, handle refrigerant, modify wiring, or defeat a door lock or interlock. A task that needs a panel removed or a live measurement is a visit, not a weekend project.
Stop-use signs
Smoke, a burning electrical smell, a gas odor, sparks, or water at an outlet are reasons to stop and isolate power only from a dry, accessible breaker if that is safe. Do not keep testing the cycle.
Owner-safe side
Filters the manual lists, visible hose routing, and a written note of the symptom stay on the safe side. Use contact when the next step would cross that line.
